Athletic Club Betting News

Athletic Club welcome Malaga CF to San Mames on Sunday, with the possibility of three points huge for their hopes to push toward the Europa League qualification places. Last time out Ernesto Valverde’s men took on fell short away to the high-flying Sevilla in a 1-0 loss – a loss which they will rightly feel they could have at least drew.

Their form however has admittedly been patchy, having accrued only nine points from the last 18 available, picking up three losses in their last six La Liga matches. Interestingly, Athletic Club are undefeated in their last 12 home matches in La Liga. Furthermore, Athletic Club are undefeated in their last nine home matches against Malaga in all competitions.

With regard to team news Mikel Balenziaga, Benat and Aymeric Laporte are all carrying knocks and are unlikely to start Sunday’s match.

Malaga CF meanwhile go into Sunday’s clash on the back of another loss – this time a 2-1 defeat at home to Real Betis. That loss was Malaga’s third in their last six La Liga matches, and eleventh of the season. Malaga currently sit 15th in the table, seven points clear of the relegation zone.

Malaga are very poor travellers – failing to win their last 16 away matches in La Liga. Also of note, there have been over 2.5 goals scored in Malaga’s last 3 games in the league.  Looking at team news for the away side it looks like Roberto Rosales will slot in at right-back after serving his suspension.

Elsewhere, Juanpi is still carrying a knock and should miss out. Finally, Juankar should be fit for the weekend after picking up a knock.

Athletic Club vs Malaga CF Match Prediction

Athletic Club have won just two of their last five competitive games, but those victories did come at San Mames, with Los Leones’ home form proving vital of late. Valverde’s men have struggled to keep clean sheets however.

After earning their first league victory under Romero a week or so ago, Malaga have since gone on to lose to both Eibar and Real Betis. Expect a victory for the home side here, but don’t expect too many goals.
